About Me

MY BACKGROUND

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by photography. When I graduated from school, my parents gave me a Kodak camera as a graduation gift. I’d save up my money to buy film, photograph anything that moved, and wait with anticipation for the film to return from the developers to see the results. When I was at University studying Physics, I took a unit about black and white film using a Pentax K1000. I was introduced to film processing techniques in a dark room and explored the artistic side of photography.

I went on to get a degree in Education and found a passion for teaching. After 10 years teaching Primary and High School students, I moved into a new position running workshops with teachers integrating cameras and other technologies into the Curriculum. Traveling to country and remote schools, I encountered unique and stunning landscapes. In 2004, a few years after our first child was born, I purchased my first Digital SRL camera, a Nikon D70. I took the camera on my long trips into the country and discovered a love for Landscape Photography.

I am intrigued with both the Art and Science of Photography. I enjoy many incredible benefits of Landscape Photography. It provides a creative outlet, encourages me to explore the outdoors, and engages with the natural world. I find nothing more rewarding than discovering a location and camping for several nights to observe the changing patterns of nature and how elements of the landscape interact.

MY STORY

I get plenty of personal satisfaction from my Landscape Photography. The crisp morning air of a winter sunrise shoot, the warmth of a sun setting in summer, the exhilaration of a hike to a new location, and of course, the feeling of capturing the beauty of a natural landscape.

Over time, and with plenty of practice, my images improved. I started to share the pictures I captured on social media, mainly Instagram (@Andrew_Marr). At first, it was for family and friends, and then I began to get a following. I was looking at a way of sharing more of my landscape photography than just the images. So I started capturing footage of the locations I visited and creating videos of how I created my landscape images.

I started my YouTube channel (@Andrew Marr) in 2016, where I shared my photography trips and the story behind the images I took. Initially, the channel was another way of sharing my pictures. After a couple of months, I began getting questions in the comments about my landscapes, where I was focusing, what focal length I was at, and which filters I used. I soon realize that the audience watching my videos was interested in landscape photography and were also interested in learning about landscape photography. This was when I realized I could bring together teaching and photography in the YouTube videos and walk through my thought process. I’m capturing my landscape images so others can learn and improve their own photography.
